Years ago I participated in an exchange on this page with a few people including a young lady named Abbey about "snow dancing" and snow days. Today is my first snow day of the school year and that young lady named Abbey is now student teaching in my classroom. You never know what life will bring you. I hope life brings you to a Blue Band gig in the future-maybe a gig at the Hub or the Waterloo Center for the Arts or the Blues Fest in Des Moines. Dear Bob, Before this comment becomes totally late, I want to say I enjoyed staying at the hotel, and I listened to all the bands, but I still enjoyed The Blue Band the best! And congrats and best wishes to Steve Hayes, one of the best musicians and finest persons I've ever met! The whole band are even better people than they are artists, and that's saying a lot! I look forward to the Bombay bicycle Club, finding it, seeing if it serves food, etc. I also hope to be around when you all invade the Marriott at the end of the month- I've been having a good time-Friends have given me $135 AFTER the holidays, and I have most of it left- I guess I haven't visited your homepage too often lately, but I also want to give a shout-out to Mr. Paul McCartney of Austin, Texas-Quite a name and quite a story, sir. Bob, I first heard you in the Fall, 1987, when I lived in Fresno, CA. My sister, Denise played a cassette tape called "Real Time/Bar Time. The song "See Ya Later, Alligator" was the first Blue Band tune I to touch my ears, heart, and mind. Then, I we met at Howard Johnson's on Meryl Hay Rd, in DSM in June 1988. (Pete was there blowing his whistle.) I have been grooving with you ever since. Later, when I realized I had seen some of the most famous guitar players in pop music's brief history, it dawned on me that Jeff Peterson is truly one of the best guitar players I have ever heard. He's right up there with Jerry Garcia, Gary Richrath (REO Speedwagon) and Alan Collins (Skynyrd) yet a lot more approachable, personable. Those factors led me to see the Blue Band more than I have seen any other group on Earth. You have come a long way since 1988 and, as I have often shared, you are like a fine wine. You get better with age. Thus, since I cannot be there in person, the best way I can wish you "Happy Birthday" is to let you know that 1. you are one of Iowa' greatest treasures 2. you given far more to the state of Iowa (and beyond) than most people will ever dream 3. my life would not have been nearly as much fun without you and 4. you are loved far more than I (or many others) have ever told you. Hey, I read your e-mail that you sent out as I am on your e-mail list. I see that you are sort of contemplating what you want to do now that you will soon be 60. Just want you to know that I am also 59 and will be 60 next August. I recently got laid off my job and it was working for PILOT. I feel it was definitely age discrimination but they gave me some other dumb excuse. Anyhow I am not looking for a job and am on unemployment for the time being. It isn't easy, that is for sure. I love your band and first heard your band when you played at the state fair and Molly Nova was a part of the band. I have heard you many times since then and in Grinnell for Music in the Park, etc. And also when you played at Gary's Sports time bar there. I wish you much continued sucdess next year with the band and hope you have many gigs. Never stop playing Mustang Sally as that is my and my brother's favorite song and we always say a band isn't good unless they play that song!
